PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for coordinating the efforts of School Resource Officers regarding their respective Zone/Beats to maintain high visibility on school property to prevent and respond to crimes against district property, students and personnel. This position may have responsibilities for a focused area and may be assigned to any shift as needed for effectiveness of operations.

 

REPORTS TO: Campus Police, Patrol/Operations Sergeant

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-10

WORK DAYS: 250

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: High school diploma

Preferred: College coursework or degree in criminal justice

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 
  • Certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) as a police officer
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a law enforcement officer
  • Police academy or training in specific areas of security procedures and investigation
  • Ability to operate emergency equipment, weapons, and motor vehicles
  • Ability to maintain crowd control
  • Ability to work rapidly and accurately with names, codes and symbols
  • Ability to prepare and approve accurate and concise written reports
  • Ability to maintain security of confidential materials
  • Ability to judge when to act independently and when to refer situations to supervisor
  • Ability to work cooperatively with employees, students, parents, and public
  • Knowledge of basic law to include criminal and civil statutes
  • Knowledge of police procedures, Criminal Code of Georgia, Juvenile Court Code, and Basic Law Enforcement
  • Ability to work with principals, administrators and other school personnel with regard to juvenile or adult offense and to arbitrate for restitution

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

1) Enforces regulations and procedures in order to assure the safety of district

property, personnel, and students.

2) Coordinates work schedule for assigned workgroup and assists School

Resource Officers with elevated issues.

3) Assists Sergeant with planning, prioritizing, assigning, supervising and reviewing

the work of School Resource Officers.

4) Provides orientation to new School Resource Officers for daily activities.

5) Coordinates security and safety efforts with school administrators and other

administrative staff.

6) Performs all duties of a School Resource Officer as necessary:

a. Responsible for maintaining high visibility on school campus in order

to safeguard district property, maintains safety of students and staff.

b. Investigates incidents related to burglary, theft, arson, malicious

mischief, criminal trespass, and assaults and writes appropriate

reports.

c. Interviews, apprehends, arrests, transports, books and advises

suspects of certain constitutional rights.

d. Responds to silent alarm calls and fire alarm calls to determine cause

and take appropriate action.

7) Conforms to prescribed safety standards.

8) Performs other duties as necessary for the safe and effective operation of the

organization.

In addition to the operational duties and responsibilities above, the

Patrol/Operations Corporal may be assigned additional focused areas of

responsibility as needed by the Campus Police Division:

Focused Area Assignments: Patrol

  1. Responds to calls for service for District locations for suspicious activity.
  2. Responds to alarms at all locations across the District.
  3. Patrols assigned areas.
  4. Assess and inspect buildings.
  5. Travel safely to and from designated locations.
  6. May participate in bicycle patrol.

Must be flexible to work with any shift to support the needs of the

District.

 

Post Offer Requirements:

  1. Background Investigation with Polygraph
  2. Criminal History Record and Sex Offender Registry Checks
  3. Drug Test
  4. Maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days. Non-exempt, (G10).
