PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for operating the family center at Title I-designated schools and for assisting with the coordination of various parent activities for the school.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-5

WORK DAYS: 200

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: High school diploma

Preferred: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university

 

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 
  • Must meet Highly Qualified criteria for obtaining a Para-Professional Certification issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission: An Associate's Degree; or 60 semester / 90 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited organization or - Passing grade on the state approved assessment
  • Demonstrable ability to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher and to guide students with enrichment, remedial, and independent work as set up by the teacher
  • Knowledge of general office computer software applications, as well as use of the internet and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software product
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and co-workers
  • Ability to coordinate activities and plan events
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings and weekends

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Under the direction of the administrative team:

  1. Works as a member of the school’s Family Engagement Committee to develop, execute and assess a strategic plan for family engagement.
  2. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with parents in order to increase student achievement by helping families understand what their children need to know to be successful learners.
  3. Assists in coordinating family/community outreach sessions on particular needs, issues or available resources.
  4. Helps to build partnerships between, families, schools, and the community organizations to reach the hard-to-reach families.
  5. Maintains the library of materials for parents located in a family center.
  6. Coordinates with the school volunteer programs.
  7. Collaborate with PTA, local, state and federal agencies to support families.
  8. Attends Professional Learning as appropriate or required.
  9. Assists with planning family meetings and workshops.
  10. Helps to organize Title I family engagement documentation.
  11. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization with the expectation that a flexible schedule may be necessary to best address the needs of families.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.”  Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience.  The work calendar will be the 200 day classified schedule. (G-5)   Non-exempt.

OFFICE   Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There is frequent use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
