PRIMARY FUNCTION:  This position provides the leadership and direction for the building-level library media technology program and assists with the integration of 21st century literacy skills across the curriculum. This position provides administrative support to online instructional programs and creates an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrives.

 

REPORT TO:  Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE:  Teacher

WORK DAYS:  190

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: Master's Degree in Media Specialist, Instructional Technology, School Library or Informational Science from a GaPSC approved certification program.

                                                           OR

 

  1. *Internal Applicants Only* Bachelor's Degree or higher from a GaPSC accepted accredited institution, Pass/Exempt the GACE Program Admission Assessment, Passing score on the GACE Media Specialist assessment, and accepted into a Master's level, GaPSC approved Media Specialist certification program (program and certification, must be completed within three years).

 

    3.   Experience, Skill and Certification:

  • Must have or be eligible for a valid GA certificate in the field of Media Specialist

OR Internal SCCPSS applicants must be eligible for an Induction certificate in the field of Media Specialist.

  • Knowledge of school library media center policies and procedures, methods, practices, and terminology
  • Skill in performing administrative duties, such as maintaining a budget, inventory, purchasing,
  • Knowledge and understanding of library circulation software and materials processing, to include material and patron imports, record editing, materials inventory, and system
  • Skill in using various forms of technology equipment and resources within an instructional environment, such as instructional technology tools and software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service, prioritize work, and demonstrate teamwork and collaboration
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to conduct presentations, write comprehensive reports, as well as hold training sessions and lead group
  • Skills in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.

Essential Duties:

  3. Provide students access to materials in all formats, including up-to-date, high- quality, varied literature to develop and strengthen a love of reading.

General Duties and Responsiblities:

 

  1. Empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information, in order to create lifelong learners.

  2. Provides students access to materials in all formats, digital and print , varied literature to develop and strengthen a love of reading.
  3. Create and execute lesson plans using a broad range of tools and resources to support information and digital
  4. Prepare reports and administers the library budget with guidance from administration.
  5. Support and work with teachers to design, teach, and create 21st century lessons for an engaging learning experience tailored to the needs of the students. 
  6. Supports and works with teachers on the integration of technology into all areas of the curriculum and instructional practices.

  7. Works with district-level trainers to provide training and support on any implemented technologies, such as the LMS, Office 365, G-Drive, etc.  

  8. Selects, purchases, and processes new materials (electronic and paper-based) to assure a current and balanced collection representing diverse points of view in accordance with the district materials selection policy.

  9. Provides students, teachers, and staff with materials and resources that reflect current information and instructional needs.

  10. Manages the regular inventory of the library collection, weeds obsolete and worn materials on an ongoing basis, provides reports as needed, and maintains an up-to- date catalog of the collection.

  11. Maintains and provides reports on the school’s Fixed Asset inventory for existing equipment and technology.

  12. Supervises media clerks, assigned additional staff, student assistants, and volunteers.

  13. Actively promotes reading through activities such as interactive storytelling, book- talks, book clubs, displays, publications, reading programs, and special events.

  14. Provides staff development opportunities in the use of information and technology resources.

  15. Maintains a schedule that provides structure and flexibility in order to meet the needs of the school. Fixed and flex schedules can coexist to ensure all students are exposed to library media and technology programs.

  16. Acts as a System Administrator for the school’s LMS

  17. Performs other duties as necessary for the effective operation of the school.
