PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of a law enforcement officer, performs work of assisting school children and other pedestrian traffic with safe crossing public streets at designated intersections going to and returning from school.

 

REPORTS TO: Campus Police Corporal, School Crossing Guard Supervisor

SALARY SCHEDULE: Grade 4  Positions are .50 

WORK DAYS: The work calendar will be determined by the student school calendar days

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level:  High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency 

 

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
  • Incumbents are expected to maintain an alert attitude to prevent hazardous traffic situations.
  • Sufficient strength, vision, hearing, stamina and agility to perform all duties on a regular basis without assistance, including the presence of inclement weather.
  • Reliable transportation is required. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Ability to learn basic traffic laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to school zones.

2. Direct and regulate the flow of traffic at school crossings or within a reduced speed school zone.

3. Stop vehicle traffic on roadways near schools to allow children to cross safely. Assist children to safely cross public streets.

4. Ability to work out-of-doors in a wide variety of weather conditions.

5. Ability to maintain discipline, develop positive relationships and command respect among school children.

6. Assist school bus traffic in and out of the school parking lots.

7. Ability to exercise mature judgment in emergencies.

8. Performs other work as requested

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be determined by the student school calendar days, flexible as determined by Campus Police. Non-exempt.
