PRIMARY FUNCTION:  This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and prescriptive instruction to those students evaluated and screened for the hearing impaired program.

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY SCHEDULE:  Teacher

WORK DAYS:  190

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Level:  Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred:

Experience, Skill and Certification: 

            Required: Valid certification in Deaf Education

          Preferred: Experience as a classroom teacher

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Performs all responsibilities of the Classroom Teacher for students with hearing impairments.
  2. Works with staff of Exceptional Children Programs and student services to identify and screen those students needing special placement in the area of hearing impairment.
  3. Provides a diagnostic-prescriptive program to meet students' individual needs.
  4. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to coordinate work with other subject areas.
  5. Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and family when appropriate.
  6. Keeps, maintains, and files such reports as required, including attendance reports, case evaluations, and the like.
  7. Assumes responsibility for obtaining textbooks and other teaching materials necessary through the procedures established.
  8. Keeps informed in a systematic way of trends and new methods in education, remaining always alert to possibilities inherent in such information for adaptation to the particular needs of homebound instruction.
  9. Attends in-service programs as required.
  10. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students.

 

Terms of Employment

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 190 days. Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience.     Rev. 03-16

Reading, listening, writing, and speaking are requirements. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands, but there may be occasions that require the lifting, transporting or restraint of a student.
