PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating in the areas of instructional technology and media center programs within the district. This position is also responsible for the efficient and effective operation of media centers to include evaluating program staff, selecting and controlling media equipment and materials, and establishing/maintaining the media program curriculum framework.

SALARY SCHEDULE: Teacher

WORK DAYS: 250

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Instructional Technology, Information/Library Science, or related field.
  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 
  • Valid state certificate in the field of Media Specialist, Instructional Technology, or Leadership
  • Minimum of five (5) years combined experience running a media center/learning commons/instructional technology course or 2 years supervising a system-wide media/learning commons/instructional technology program at the District Level
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful experience supervising and directing personnel
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with a variety of customers and other personnel.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to write comprehensive reports, conduct presentations, training sessions, and lead meetings.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of media center circulation software and materials processing, to include material and patron imports, record editing, materials inventory , and system maintenance.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite, online software, and various technology tools.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology software and learning management system.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize activities.

PREFERRED

  • Experience in Learning Commons and 21st century instructional technology tools for new facilities and upgrades of existing media/techno logy rooms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Provides leaders hip and direction to Library Media Technology Specialist (LMTS) and Instructional Techno logy Coaches.
  2. Oversees district-wide teaching and learning technology initiatives and provides professional development for the sustainability and expansion of services.
  3. Provides management and structure for library media center operations to include planning, management, and evaluation of all media center/Learning Commons programs, activities, and services.
  4. Uses best practices and creates comprehensive instructional technology strategies and roadmaps for long-range planning, funding, and execution.
  5. Supervises Instructional Technology Coaches and assigns them to support district-wide instructional techno logy initiatives.
  6. Provides technical advice and guidance on the integration of technology into the teaching and learning process.
  7. Creates and evaluates bids and RFPs for the selection of new software, hardware, and materials to support the teaching and learning process.
  8. Pursues opportunities for organizational efficiency by strategically collaborating with central/school support personnel and providing professional development.
  9. Works with LMTS to establishes the curriculum framework for library media centers/Learning Commons in the areas of information literacy, digital literacy , and visual literacy.
  10. Collects and provides various reports for monitoring and evaluating the effective use of funds, programs. and resources.
  11. Provides support and assistance to principals in the selection and evaluation of LMTS. In addition, works with Human Resources in the assignment and transfer of LMTS and support staff.
  12. Responsible for the design and layout of new, renovated, and existing library media centers/Learning Commons and associated infrastructure to include selection of furniture , equipment, and other types of resources.
  13. Plans and implements the relocation and allocation of existing media center materials, resources, and technology equipment to new and/or existing sites.
  14. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 250 days. Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience.     Exempt

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY DEMANDS

CLASSROOM   Employees in this category spend at least most of the workday in a typical classroom or related educational environment.  There will be prolonged periods of standing or walking, and there may be frequent bending, stooping, or stretching. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies. Reading, listening, writing, and speaking are requirements. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands, but there may be occasions that require the lifting or restraint of a student.

 

OTHER   Occasional heavy lifting of up to 60 pounds of materials, etc.  Sitting or standing for extended periods with no control over rest periods.  Incumbents must have valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation due to frequent travel between school locations.
