PRIMARY FUNCTION:  This position is responsible for the collaboration with staff on short, medium, and long-term planning to develop English Language Arts in relation to: curriculum, resources, continuous professional development of staff, goals of the district, including its policies and practices regarding ELA and challenging targets for improvement.

 

REPORTS TO:  Director for Curriculum and Instruction

SALARY SCHEDULE:  Teacher

WORK DAYS:  229

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Level:  Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.   Preferred: Higher degree in English/Language Arts from an accredited college or university

 

Experience, Skill and Certification: 

  • Must have clear-renewable certification in a Secondary English/Language Arts
  • At least five (5) years of successful classroom teaching in the content area
  • Evidence of demonstrated knowledge and experience with implementation of standards- based curriculum, instruction and assessment in ELA
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and teacher training
  • Experience in evaluating data and developing strategic plans based on data analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications, presentation, and technology skills
  • Experience in training teachers and providing professional learning for teachers in implementing researched based instructional strategies
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Educational Leadership Certificate
  • Training in use of the coaching cycle to support teacher growth and development
  • Successful experience planning curriculum and delivering professional development
  • Experience as a mentor or in other teacher-leader roles
  • Teacher Support Specialist Endorsement

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. To be accountable for curriculum development in ELA throughout the district schools for grades 6 - 12.
  2. To be accountable for the standards of teaching and learning in ELA throughout the district schools for grades 6 - 12.
  3. Effectively lead, develop and enhance the classroom practice of teaching staff and teaching assistants.
  4. Lead, manage, and develop ELA for grades 6 – 12.
  5. Use national, local, and school management data to monitor standards achievement across the schools in ELA.
  6. Monitor the progress made towards achieving ELA targets and use this information to create strategic plans for future growth/development.
  7. Collaborate with staff on short, medium, and long-term planning to develop ELA in relation to: curriculum, resources, continuous professional development of staff, goals of the district, including its policies and practices regarding ELA and challenging targets for improvement.
  8. Plan and monitor coverage, continuity, and progression in ELA for grades 6 – 12
  9. Work collaboratively with ELA specialist for grades K – 5 to plan for a continuous, seamless development of ELA curriculum for standards K - 12
  10. Evaluate the curriculum, teaching, and learning of ELA in the schools through monitoring activities including, but not limited to:
    1. Curriculum auditing
    2. Lesson observations
    3. Work and planning scrutiny
    4. Pupil discussions
    5. Analysis of results and assessment data
    6. Attending planning meetings
    7. Leading staff training
    8. Informal discussions
  11. Establish resource and staff requirements for ELA and inform the principal/central office staff of costs and priorities.
  12. Distribute resources to meet the objectives of the school.
  13. Ensure the effective and efficient management of learning resources that align to the standards for ELA
  14. Provides support for vertical teaming of teachers
  15. Conduct Research of Best Practices that can be implemented in district.
  16. Research and write grants to support schools and district.
  17. Attend all District, Academic Affairs and Departmental Events and Activities.
  18. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

Terms of Employment

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 229 days. Salary will be determined based on highest level of certification and allowable experience. Exempt.
