PRIMARY FUNCTION: As a SCCPSS District Electrician you will install, maintain, and repair the electrical systems in all buildings and the surrounding property.  You will coordinate with other construction teams to install electrical systems at the proper time in the construction process.

 

REPORTS TO: Director, Maintenance (through the Supervisor)

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-9

WORK DAYS: 250

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education Level: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and 5 years as a Certified Electrician Preferred: Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering; Four (4) year apprenticeship program
  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 

 

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Thorough knowledge of electrical codes, and safe use of power tools and trade hand tools.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in area of certification prior to advancement to this level.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of electrical repair and maintenance equipment and efficient use of repair parts and tools required for hire.

Preferred: State License: Electrical - Restricted and Nonrestricted

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

ELECTRICAL

  • Must have direct experience in the electrical field.
  • Must be able to design, test, troubleshoot, repair, modify electrical components, parts, and test equipment. These include:
    • Main electrical panels
    • High voltage transformers
    • Low voltage lighting systems
    • Electrical panels
    • All single phase and three phase circuitry
    • Lighting circuits
    • Power distribution panels
    • Outdoor lighting circuits
    • Kitchen equipment circuits
    • HVAC circuits
    • Indoor lighting systems
  • Discuss layout, installation procedures, and problems with contractors
  • Ability to draw diagrams and schematics to clarify design details of functional criteria of electrical systems
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, technical manuals, and have a base knowledge of electrical systems and components
  • Adjust, calibrate, align, and modify all circuitry and components
  • Ability to instruct and supervise other technical personnel

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Oversee, coordinate, troubleshoot, execute installation, repair all indoor lighting systems, electrical systems, Main Power Distribution Systems Panels, outdoor lighting, construction projects, and kitchen equipment.
  • Respond to emergency power failures and emergency back-up systems.
  • Monitor and test various electrical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair all electrical systems.
  • Coordinate inspections for contractor performed work in renovations and new construction projects.
  • Certify work performed by contractors as complete and in accordance with NEC.
  • Locate electrical underground wiring for various projects.
  • Develop, oversee preventative maintenance inspections, and repairs in all district facilities of power distribution systems and components.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and assign work.
  • Assist technicians in troubleshooting system malfunctions.
  • Monitor work practices to ensure safety standards are utilized.
  • Oversee maintenance repair and troubleshooting for electrical systems.
  • Oversee installation of electrical services for construction projects on computer labs, power upgrades, mobile classrooms, parking lot lighting, and field lighting installations.
  • Review pre-construction documents and technical guidelines for district.
  • Investigate and make suggestions regarding the implementation of new energy management equipment and devices.
  • Respond to emergency electrical calls, power outages, and System failures.
  • Ability to evaluate situation and take proper corrective action.
  • Oversee inspections for contractor work on renovations and new construction projects.
  • Responsible for identifying, estimating, and prioritizing trade related improvements for district properties.
  • Ability to locate electrical underground wiring.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to use the SchoolDude or comparable work order system.
  • Ability to perform math computations needed in the electrical trade.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education, building and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, work effectively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Ability to be on call and/or respond to emergency calls.
  • Must have a valid Ga driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work from a ladder.
  • Ability to work overtime when asked.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Must pass a drug test and background check.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Incumbents will be considered “at will.”  Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience.  This position is considered to be “essential personnel, critical staff” when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules.  The work calendar will be 250 days. Grade 9, Non-exempt, Public School Retirement System Eligibility
