PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for assuring support for all trades in order to program, schedule and execute a maintenance program; procures materials and supplies, organizes, assigns, and supervises the work of work crews. 

 

REPORTS TO: Director, Maintenance

SALARY SCHEDULE: Administrative Pay Scale, A5-M

WORK DAYS: 250

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: High school diploma

Preferred: Technical or vocational courses in one or more trades

 

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 
  • Four or more years experience in a supervisory role in a medium or large maintenance operation (Applicants with eight or more years as a Mechanic I or five or more years as a Lead Mechanic in the district's Maintenance and Operations Department will be considered to have met this requirement.)
  • Significant experience in the maintenance, repair or construction trades at the journeyman (skilled) level.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of state, county and city building codes and ordinances.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of tools, materials and standard practices of building and/or equipment maintenance trades.
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment of maintenance and construction trades.
  • Ability to work from sketches, drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students and staff.
  • Possess a valid Class C driver's license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Plans, assigns, and supervises various work groups and projects. 
  2. Submits estimates of cost of materials and labor.
  3. Writes requisitions, and ensures proper procurement of necessary equipment and materials.
  4. Receives work orders, makes job assignments, and recommends priorities of work.
  5. Assists in developing and delivering training programs for staff in safety procedures, use and care of equipment, appropriate use of materials and other subjects.
  6. Makes bills of materials for jobs and see that stock levels are maintained.
  7. Performs highly skilled technical work.
  8. Inspects completed jobs and makes necessary reports.
  9. Make periodic inspections of buildings and equipment.
  10. Prepares plans or sketches, or explains same or supplied blueprints to ensure work crew will perform assignments correctly.
  11. Keeps records and prepares reports.
  12. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students and staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. This position is considered to be “essential personnel, critical staff” when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules. The work calendar will be 250 days.

OFFICE   Employees in this category are normally exposed to a typical environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There is frequent use of computers, telephone, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
