POSITOIN TITLE: Student Learning Apprentice Intership 

REPORTS TO:  Worksite Coordinator

WORK HOURS: 20 Hours a week

 

SUMMARY: Accepting applications for qualified interns to join our Apprenticeship/Internship Program.  The High School Internship Program is a 2-year program that provides High School students with valuable work experience within the Savannah-Chatham County Public School District.  S.W.A.P. provides an opportunity for students to explore future career opportunities and gain real-world work experience.

Interns/apprentice may work up to a maximum of twenty (20) hours per week during the school year.  Additional hours may be available during the Spring Break, Summer Break, and the Winter Holiday Break.  The working opportunities are temporary positions.

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  1. Current and recent graduates of Savannah Chatham County Public School System.
  2. Age 15 (with valid work permit) or 16 or older, currently enroll in SCCPSS or recent school year graduate of SCCPSS.
  3. Students with CPR/First Aid certification will be preference or willing to receive First aid and CPR training.
  4. Ability to teach and lead various activities.
  5. Excellent character, integrity, and adaptability
  6. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Perform assigned duties specific to the operational needs of the operating department where the internship is performed
  2. Perform various office clerical functions including answering phones; retrieving and delivering files and records; typing and scanning documents; receiving, sorting, and distributing mail and office supplies
  3. Compile and tabulate numeric data
  4. Perform data entry
  5. Perform specific tasks under the guidance of staff to support program activities
  6. Provide general information regarding programs and services to the public
  7. Participate in the set-up and operation of special events and program activities
  8. Perform related duties as required
  9. Assist teachers and students with academic programs (work with other students in teh core content areas)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Be able to walk, bend, stand, squat, or sit on the floor (with children) throughout an 8-hour day.
  2. Be able to physically respond quickly in an emergency.
  3. Be actively engaged and involved with children each day, including planning daily outdoor time in all ranges of temperatures or humidity levels, subject to safety guidelines and protocols.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LONG TERM EMPLOYMENT:

 

Student with a satisfactory evaluation, will be presented with an opportunity to continue in the Youth Apprenticeship Program during the school year where positions and funding are available. The Student Workforce Apprenticeship Program will work with hiring managers to extend opportunities for students.
