PRIMARY FUNCTION: As a SCCPSS District HVAC technician you will install, maintain and repair commercial and residential HVAC systems in all buildings. You will be asked to repair and perform Plant Maintenance on large Hydronic, VRV, VRF, Citi-Multi systems, and Reheat Systems.  You will coordinate with other construction teams to install HVAC systems at the proper time in the construction process

 

REPORTS TO: Director, Maintenance (through the Supervisor)

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: G-9

WORK DAYS: 250

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate and above 5 years as a Certified HVAC Technician Associate Degree in HVACR Preferred: Four (4) year apprenticeship program; HVAC EPA Certification Type - Universal

  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 

HVACR

  • Must have direct experience in HVAC and boiler operations
  • Must be proficient with the Plant Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance of all HVAC equipment
  • Must be able to design, troubleshoot, repair, modify HVAC equipment, and test the following HVAC equipment:
    • Boilers
    • Air cooled and Water cooled Chillers
    • Split Systems
    • WSHP
    • Cooling Towers
    • Wall mounted and Roof top units
    • VRF & VRV Systems
    • ERU & ERV units
    • Various Heat Pump systems
    • DOAS units
    • DX units
    • Citi-Multi systems
    • Boilers
    • Gas fired & Tankless water heaters
    • Any and all HVAC systems not listed

FOOD SERVICE:

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair the following:
  • Walk-in Freezer
  • Walk-in Cooler
  • 2 & 3 door coolers
  • 2 & 3 door freezers
  • Combi ovens & gas Fired Ovens
  • Steamers (Electric & Gas fired)
  • Skillets & Braising pans
  • Various kitchen equipment

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Thorough knowledge of all HVAC, electrical / low voltage codes, and safe use of power tools and trade hand tools
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the HVACR and Plant Maintenance field of study
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals
  • Operating knowledge of HVAC repair and maintenance equipment and efficient use of tools to repair HVAC equipment

Preferred: State License: Restricted or Nonrestricted HVACR

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Inspect electrical connections, contactors, relays, and operating / safety controls
  • Ability to review and use manufacturer’s recommendations for startup of new equipment
  • Test, repair, and/or replace all operating and safety controls
  • Service, test, and repair chill water pumps and condenser water pumps
  • Service, test, repair and replace cooling towers and cooling tower pumps
  • Service, test, repair, and replace all belts, bearings, shafts, and sheaves on colling towers and blower assemblies
  • Ability to check and add the proper refrigerant charge, oil levels on any and all HVAC equipment
  • Inspect water cooled and air cooled chillers and troubleshoot, test, and repair as needed
  • Ability to test, cycle operating controls, troubleshoot, repair, and replace unloaders
  • Service, repair, and install heat pump and straight cool split systems
  • Service and repair of all makes of air cooled and water cooled chillers
  • Service, repair, and install Liebert units (Computer room systems)
  • Service, repair, and install gas heating systems and package units
  • Service, repair, and install all makes and models of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s)
  • Service, repair, and install all makes and models of gas fired boilers
  • Service, repair, and install all makes and models of gas fired water heaters, tankless water heaters, and electric water heaters
  • Service, repair, and install all makes and models of ERV’s, ERU’s, forced air units, and make up air units
  • Service, repair, and install of all VRV, VRF, Citi-Multi, and Mini-Split systems
  • Assist with construction/remodel plan reviews of HVAC projects
  • Ability to use the SchoolDude work order system
  • Ability to follow through to verify work has been completed and work orders are closed out properly
  • Ability to work with outside vendors, engineers, contractors, and consultants on projects affecting HVAC Systems
  • Support the Director of Maintenance with Department goals and visions and help implement them
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to create a comfortable and safe environment which allows the SCCPSS customer(s) to study, teach and learn at all facilities
  • Ability to install and assemble of any HVAC system based on technical specifications
  • Ability to make wiring connections safely and accurately
  • Perform regular inspections to identify defects and schedule replacement of HVAC Systems
  • Perform system testing to evaluate performance and functionality of HVAC Systems
  • Maintain inventory control of HVAC components and tools
  • Maintain documentations of system installation and maintenance procedures
  • Oversee inspections of contractor work in renovations and new construction projects
  • Responsible for identifying, estimating, and prioritizing trade related improvements for district properties
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions
  • Personal computer and keyboarding skills
  • Ability to perform math computations needed in the HVAC trade
  • Ability to be on call and/or respond to emergency calls
  • Ability to work overtime when asked
  • Ability to promote and follow all Board of Education policies as well as building and department procedures
  • Ability to communicate, interact, work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions
  • Ability to work with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and/or engineering instructions to install HVAC units
  • Ability to apply knowledge of HVACR theory and components to resolve engineering issues
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
  • Must be able to work from a ladder
  • Must have a valid Ga driver’s license.
  • Any other duties as assigned
  • Must pass a drug test and background check

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.”  Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience.  This position is considered to be “essential personnel, critical staff” when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules.  The work calendar will be 250 days. Grade 9, Non-exempt, Public School Retirement System Eligibility
