PRIMARY FUNCTION: The position is responsible for listening to, understanding, interpreting, and translating spoken or written Spanish. The position helps and supports staff on school functions and school-based family involvement in programs, activities, and events. Provides simultaneous interpretation for the effectiveness of school operations and school-to-home partnerships.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Native fluent Spanish speaker with English proficiency or three years of Spanish classes.
- Ability to provide simultaneous interpretation support
- Available during school hours and sometimes evenings and/or
- Understanding of the needs of the Limited English Proficient (LEP)
- Ability to speak, read and write fluently in Spanish and English (School Setting)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills – the ability to work well with a diverse culture and population.
- Ability to sustain communication and support students, parents, teachers, and school staff.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook as well as software applications relevant to areas of responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitates accurate and effective communication between school staff and Spanish-speaking families.
- Oral and written translation from Spanish to English and from English to
- Interprets orally from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English during parent-teacher conferences, family engagement events, public meetings, telephone calls, testing, information gathering from other school districts, emergency situations, etc.
- Provides interpretation support for limited English proficient parents and families at school- and district-related meetings/events, training, and events.
- Skill in translating spoken words from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English at a normal speaking rate.
- Provides translations from English to Spanish for such purposes as notification regarding school activities, student progress, disciplinary actions, etc.
- The employee is responsible for written translation from Spanish to English for such purposes as translation of school records, medical records, notes from parents, etc.
- Collaborates with staff from other programs and departments to ensure that the needs of limited English proficient and immigrant parents are supported.
- Maintains confidentiality in all areas and maintains appropriate professional
- Attends family school events, activities, and meetings to act as an official interpreter to facilitate engagement and discussions.
- Translates documents and materials for Spanish-speaking
- Assists Spanish-speaking students and their families with the school enrollment process or any other needs.
- Assists school personnel and Spanish-speaking parents and students to communicate more effectively.
- Maintains and submits accurate and timely reports and documentation as
- Assists with proofreading translated documents from English to Spanish and in the coordination of internal and external resources and support for Limited English Proficient families.

Performs other Title I duties related to interpreting and translating as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Classified Scale, Grade 15 and allowable experience. This is a 200-day non-exempt position. Rev. 10-2024
This position is funded through Title I programs and is contingent on availability of funds.
