PRIMARY FUNCTION: SCCPSS Campus Police Department’s School Resource Officer Trainee Program is for applicants who are not a certified police officer through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).  Selected candidates must complete the POST certified Basic Law Enforcement Course, an 11-week program conducted at a Police Academy that includes classroom Instruction, field training exercises and a rigorous physical fitness regimen. After graduating, the candidate will be a certified police officer/school resource officer (SRO) for SCCPSS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Enforces regulations and procedures to assure the safety of district property, personnel, and students.
  2. Responsible for maintaining high visibility on school campus to safeguard district property, maintains safety of students and staff.
  3. Investigates incidents related to burglary, theft, arson, malicious mischief, criminal trespass, and assaults and writes appropriate reports.
  4. Interviews, apprehends, arrests, transports, books, and advises suspects of certain constitutional rights.
  5. Responds to silent alarm calls and fire alarm calls to determine cause and take appropriate action.
  6. Conforms to prescribed safety standards.
  7. Performs other duties as necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school and district.

Preemployment Requirements:

  1. Background Investigation with Polygraph, Psychological and Medical Exam.
  2. Criminal History Record and Sex Offender Registry Checks
  3. Drug Test
  4. Maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a paid training program for the purpose of becoming eligible for full time employment as a Certified School Resource Officer.  This is a temporary training agreement for the entire training program and cannot exceed one (1) year.   Flat training fee is $15.00 per hour.  No more than 40 hours in any one week without approval from the Command Staff.
