PRIMARY FUNCTION

This position is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, supporting and supervising the implementation of gifted, advanced content and supplemental support programs in grades K-12.

SALARY SCHEDULE:  Teacher

WORK DAYS:  229

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Educational Level: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Accomplishes human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing gifted and advanced content programs K-12; planning; enforcing policies and procedures.
  2. Achieves operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and stakeholder service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  3. Meets financial objectives by forecasting programmatic needs; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  4. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  5. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments such as SAT, PSAT, Duke TIP, Dual Enrollment, Online Learning Opportunities, Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs.
  6. Assists in maintaining and monitoring the FTEs earned at each school for the gifted and supplemental support programs.
  7. Assists in monitoring student records at each school.
  8. Provides support and works directly with teachers, school administrators and parents for the program for the gifted and advanced content.
  9. Works collaboratively with instructional staff to improve instruction.
  10. Participates in site visits to classrooms to provide support assistance to classroom teachers and site administrators.
  11. Develops program reports and budget requests.
  12. Assists in maintaining records for the gifted and advanced content programs.
  13. Develops and coordinates appropriate professional development activities directed toward improvement of teacher competencies in the area of gifted education.
  14. Keeps informed on the latest research and instructional practices in gifted/advanced learning education.
  15. Gains support and/or service through cooperative agreement and personal efforts with various organizations and community agencies to improve the program for the gifted.
  16. Serves as a resource person to professional and lay groups in the community regarding the program for the gifted.
  17. Provides demonstration teaching when requested by the site administrator.
  18. Assists and/or supervises in the development and implementation of gifted endorsement training for teachers of the gifted.
  19. Assists in developing curriculum (guides) and classroom organization of programs for the gifted and advanced content.
  20. Assists in coordinating and maintaining assessment instruments and distribution to the facilitators as needed for identification and gifted placement for students.
  21. Seeks and applies for grants related to the gifted program.
  22. Coordinates gifted endorsement program.
  23. Performs such other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

 

Terms of Employment

Incumbents will receive an annual contract.  The work calendar will be 229 days.  Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience.     Rev 03-2022
