PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Fleet Mechanic Senior will inspect, diagnose, repair and service mechanical issues on district vehicles and equipment. Work will be performed in compliance with established safety procedures and meeting or exceeding industry estimated times as established by the manufacture. A Fleet Mechanic Senior must be able to drive any vechicle in the Fleet, provide assistance and supervision to other Fleet Mechanics, be available for on-call status as needed. Must be able to assume control of the shop if no other leadership is present, and direct the work of subordinate employees.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Education Level: Completion of a High School education or General Equivalency Diploma(GED) Prefered: Completion of Vocational or Technical school automotive training program
2. Experience, Skill, and Certification:
- Five (5) years of experience in school bus or medium/heavy truck maintenance
- Comprehensive knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance techniques and practices
- Ability to diagonse and repair both routine and the more complex problems on all types of automotive vehicles and components
- Ability to operate tools and equipment associated with the trade
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Commercial driver's license with school bus and passanger endorsement within 90 days of employment
Preferred:
- ASE School Bus certified in Brakes, Electrical/Electronic, Diesel Engines, Drive Train, Suspension/Steering, or Body Systems
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- The Fleet Mechanic Senior receives general supervsion from the Shop Foreman. The employee in this class assists in supervision for personnel in the automotive repair and maintenance shop.
- As assigned, dicusses vechicle problems with drivers to determine repairs as needed, checks work in progress and inspects completed jobs as necessary.
- Assists with the inspection, general repair and annual repair, and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles.
- Follows prescribed daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance schedule.
- Inspects, changes, repairs and mounts tires as required. Ensures tires are in compliance with all safety standards.
- Initiates and maintains computer data entry and retrieval of information related to the work of the auto repair and maintenance shop.
- As assigned,performs repair and maintenance jobs, provides technical guidance as needed, checks work in progress and inspects completed jobs as necessary.
- As directed, responds to emergency calls to make determination of severity of problem. Makes repairs and reports to supervsior for additional assistance.
- Assists Shop Foreman with spare parts inventory and all inventories in vehicle/equipment bid specifications.
- Must provide own hand tools, and power tools necessary to repair vehicles.
- Willing & capable to successfully pass training certification and safety programs as required by the District.
- Must be able to troubleshoot on cameras, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and radios related to hardware, wiring, and other plug and play troubleshooting.
- Assists Fleet Mechanics by diagnosing more complicated maintenance and repairs work orders as needed.
- Follows state and district maintenance policies, procedures and regulations. Uses, as instructed, all personal protective equipment.
- Must be available to work flexible schedule in order to meet critical needs to the district.
- Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. This position is considered to be “essential personnel, critical staff” when there is an event that creates security challenges or disruptions to district operations. This position may be required to work during identified periods of an emergency as defined in Policy Regulation GBRB-R, Title: Professional Personnel Time Schedules. The work calendar will be 250 days. Grade 11, Non-exempt, Eligible for Public School Retirement System.
