PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Fleet Mechanic Intermediate will inspect, diagnose, repair and service mechanical issues on district vehicles and equipment. Work will be performed in compliance with established safety procedures and meeting, or exceeding industry estimated times as established by the manufacture. A Fleet Mechanic m Intermediate must be able to drive any vehicle in the Fleet, provide assistance to Fleet Mechanics, and be available for on-call status as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education Level: Completion of a High School education or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) Preferred: Completion of Vocational or Technical school automotive training program
  1. Experience, Skill, and Certification: 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Inspects assigned vehicles, diagnoses problems, and obtains and/or orders parts needed.
  2. Repairs and maintains engines, power trains, brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, etc., of buses and other vehicles.
  3. Installs, checks and repairs wheelchair lifts, seat belts, and other restraints.
  4. Must provide own hand tools, and power tools necessary to repair vehicles.
  5. Performs various scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all district equipment.
  6. Proficient user of diagnostic equipment. 
  7. Performs Ga DOE inspections.
  8. Willing & capable to successfully pass training certification and safety programs as required by the District.
  9. Must be able to troubleshoot complex issues on cameras, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and radios related to hardware, wiring, and other plug and play troubleshooting.
  10. Determines how to prioritize task.
  11. Assists Fleet Mechanics by diagnosing more complicated maintenance and repairs work orders as needed.
  12. Follows state and district maintenance policies, procedures and regulations. Uses, as instructed, all personal protective equipment.
  13. Must be available to work flexible schedule in order to meet critical needs to the district.
  14. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.”  Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience.  The work calendar will be 250 days. (Grade 10) Non-Exempt. Eligible for Public School Retirement System.
