PRIMARY FUNCTION: Savannah Chatham County Public Schools Campus Police Department’s Lead SSO position is a civilian non-armed employee of the district. This position will assist the site administration with the role of the SSO, training of screenings of students and visitors. Additionally, the Lead SSO will assist in the training and management of the SSO staff and will serve as a liaison between SSO and Campus Police supervisors. that receives additional training and equipment enabling them to help maintain a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff when assigned to a school campus or other SCCPSS site

REQUIREMENTS:
- Education Level: High school diploma
- Experience, Skill, and Certification:
- One year experience as a public or private safety, security, military, law enforcement or relevant work experience evidenced of successful programs working with students
• Valid Georgia Driver’s License
• Demonstrate ability to prepare accurate and concise written reports
• Demonstrate ability to maintain security of confidential materials
• Demonstrate ability to judge when to act independently and when to refer situations to supervisor
• Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively with employees, students, parents, and public
• Demonstrate ability to work with principals, administrators and other school personnel with regard to juvenile
• Demonstrates good communications skills
• Ability to travel to more than one location daily
- Preferred : Three years of experience as a public or private safety, security, military, law enforcement or relevant work experience
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- 1. Conducts screenings of incoming persons using metal detectors, and other accepted and appropriate security practices.
2. Detects and confiscates weapons and/or contraband.
3. Ensures that visitors are directed to front office personnel for appropriate directions.
4. Maintains a smooth flow of entry traffic while ensuring safety and security is not compromised.
5. Remains vigilant for suspicious activity or emergency situations.
6. Maintains a professional appearance in issued uniform and equipment.
7. Maintains confidentiality in the organizational environment as required.
8. Responsible for maintaining high visibility on school campus in order to maintain safety of students and staff.
9. Conforms to prescribed safety standards.
10. Conducts internal and external school threat assessments.
11. Uses verbal de-escalation techniques learned during provided training when encountering aggressive or uncooperative individuals.
12. Enforces school rules and board polices.
13. Must be able to be flexible to working at various locations.
14. Prepares and completes various forms, reports and documents for submission.
15. Performs other duties as necessary for the safe and effective operation of the school and the district.

- Maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Incumbents must have a reliable contact telephone number, must hold a valid driver’s license, must have reliable personal transportation, and must be able to drive between various sites when necessary.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 200 days. Grade (10) Non-Exempt.
